Farrel Corcoran is Professor of Communication, at DCU, where he has also served as Head of Communication and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities. Before coming to Dublin, he studied for his PhD at the University of Oregon and worked at the University of New Mexico and Northern Illinois University. His teaching and research interests include: the Political Economy of Broadcasting, Media and Cultural Identity, Global Communication, European Media Policy, Television and Children, Film and Television Audiences, Mass communication Theory, Cultural Memory, the Impact of the Internet on the Mass Media. He served as Chairman of RTE from 1995 to 2000. Professor Corcoran has recently published 'RTE and the Globalisation of Irish Television' (Intellect Books, 2004).
