Civic Engagement: Core Mission

"Engagement with the wider community must become more firmly embedded in the mission of higher education institutions. Higher education institutions need to become more firmly embedded in the social and economic contexts of the communities they live in and serve" (National Strategy for Higher Education to 2030)

DCU in the Community is a bridge to higher education established in the heart of Ballymun to give concrete expression to the university’s Civic Engagement Strategy . A more recent initiative is Sustainable DCU aimed at the greening of the campus and the involvement of staff and students around sustainability practices.  The Office of Civic and Global Engagement also coordinates the Irish African Partnership for Research Capacity Building  www.irishafricanpartnership.ie  an inter-university partnership dedicated to capacity building in African universities and publishes an inter-university research journal on the new migration in Ireland and its social impact www.translocations.ie.
