Power usage in DCU is being monitored by the energy management company "E3?-Energy, Environment, Economy. E3 monitor energy usage on campus in the University 24/7. The company are also working with Trinity, UCD and DIT. Information on energy usage is available on the E3 website. By constantly monitoring energy usage, when and where most energy is consumed, we can try to find ways of lowering consumption and therefore reducing costs and our effect on the environment.
Interesting statistics on DCU's power consumption
By making small changes to when and how we consume energy we can can make big changes to both the environment and the Univesities expenditure which could see these vaulable funds being used to greater effect elsewhere. These small changes can include switching off PC's, light switches or radiators which arent being used.
DCU's electricity is supplied by Airtricity who use wind farms to generate the majority of their electricity. They claim that 69% of their electricity is generated from these windfarms which produce 0% carbon emissions. For more information visit the Airtricity website.
