| Biography: |
David Jacobson is Professor of Economics in DCUBS and has been lecturing in economics and political economy there since 1983. He has also taught at universities in Japan, France, the United States, Israel and Cyprus. He has been a member of a number of research consortia funded by the EU, including one on policy and innovation in so-called low-tech industries, and another on aviation as a sectoral system of innovation in Europe. His other funded work has included research for SIPTU, the Marine Institute and Enterprise Ireland. He spent a term as an independent government appointee on NESC and has received a number of awards and scholarships for his research. |

David’s research focuses on industrial economics and innovation and has been published in many Irish and international journals including Regional Analysis and Policy, European Planning Studies, Economic Geography and New Technology, Work and Employment. The sectors and sub-sectors covered in his many projects have included car assembly, pharmaceuticals, software manual printing, the computer industry, furniture and clothing. His books include a major text book on Industrial Economics and Organization brought out in 1996 by McGraw-Hill; he and his co-author, Prof. Bernadette Andreosso, produced a completely revised second edition in 2005. David, together with Paul Robertson and Richard Langlois, is a contributor to the Handbook of Industrial Districts. |
