2000-2009: School Evaluation - The CEE has been a partner in a series of EU research projects under the Lifelong Learning Programme evaluating different approaches to the evaluation of schools accross europe. This work has led to a series of publications on this topic, the most recent of which "Trusting Schools and Teachers: Developing Educational Professionalism Through Self-Evaluation", more information on our publications page.
2003-2008: Homophobic Bullying in Schools. The CEE has been involved in a series of projects funded by the Dpartment of Education and Science and the Equality Authority of Ireland concerned with discovering the extent of and responses to homophobic bullying in second level schools in Ireland. This work has been published as "Straight Talk: Researching Gay and Lesbian Issues in the School Curriculum". More information on our publications page.
2003 - 2006: 'Qual Praxis' Project funded under the E.U. Leonardo da Vinci Programme, is evaluating the assessment, certification and of Adult and Further Education courses in Ireland and four other E.U. countries with a view to enhancing educational mobility and opportunity.
2001-2003: An Evaluation of Fis - Film in the Curriculum Project in Irish Primary Schools. The Project funded by the Department of Education and Science and Allied Irish Banks was concerned with the development of film education and film making as a way of making the school curriculum more relevant to the needs and interests of all pupils but particularly those less academically inclined. Phase two of the project is now underway in a wider range of Primary Schools and in some Post Primary Schools in disadvantaged areas.
2001-2003: An evaluation of the experience of ethnic minorities in higher education in general, and specifically in DCU, funded by the Equality Unit of the HEA. This report is now with the HEA and the President and senior management of DCU, and will be published in summary form in late 2004 as 'Breaking the Barriers: an Evaluation of Ethnic Minority Experience in Higher Education'.
2000: An evaluation of the "Greendale Project" the development and piloting of a programme of positive learning/discipline designed to reduce dropout rates among academic low achievers, funded by the Department of Education and Science. The report was published as Positive Discipline: an Irish Educational Appraisal and Practical Guide (2000). Copies were sent by the Department of Education and Science to every post-primary school and adult learning centre in the State and so far follow-up in-service has been given by the project team to one hundred and twenty four schools, most of which have adopted the programme in whole or in part. An evaluation is now being conducted of the second phase of the project and David Fulton Publishers, London, have indicated an interest in publishing the outcome.
1997-2000: A nationwide evaluation of the training needs of educators in the Adult and Further Education sectors, funded by E.U. Leonardo da Vinci Programme and the Department of Education and Science. The evaluation was published as An Analysis of the Training Needs of Trainers in the Further Education Sector in Ireland (2000).
This project led to a commitment in the White Paper on Adult Education to establish a sub-committee of the National Adult Learning Council to oversee training provision for educators in Adult and Further Education. It also led to the establishment of innovative and flexible training programmes for these educators at DCU, namely the Certificate, Diploma and B.Sc in Education and Training, now recognised as the leading training provision in the field in Ireland.
1995-1998: Two nationwide evaluations for the National Centre for Guidance in Education - Principles' Perceptions of the Guidance Service (1997) and Guidance in Adult and Continuing Education (1998). The former resulted in a large expansion of the Schools' Psychological Service and the latter led to a national pilot scheme of adult guidance which is now in the process of being mainstreamed.
The Centre has also carried out educational evaluations overseas for APSO and UNDP, in Belize and Surinam and, most recently, of Trocaire funded interventions in Serbia-Montenegro.
