Workshop on Supporting Students with Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Workshop Facilitators:

Kieran Lewis Kieran is an Occupational Therapist in the Unilink Service in TCD.  He currently works with over 40 TCD students with ADHD, developing strategies to help them engage in college.

Brian Creaner –
Brian is an Occupational Therapist in the Unilink Service in DCU and in TCD.  He currently works with students with ADHD, Developmental Coordination Disorder as well as students with mental health difficulties.

Who can attend?
All staff who may deal with students with ADHD; academic staff, student support services and front line staff from key areas (such as registry, library etc.) who wish to improve their awareness of ADHD when working with students in a university setting.

This will be an interactive workshop involving discussion, previous experiences of participants as well as a questions and answers session.

At the end of this workshop, you will have learned:

  • What ADHD is and the impact it can have on student learning.
  • What your role is in supporting students and how you can help.
  • Inclusive teaching strategies and reasonable accommodations for students with ADHD.
  • The types of support available within and outside DCU as well as online resources and how to access them.
  • What the Unilink Service can offer in supporting students with ADHD.
  • Where you as a staff member can go for advice and support.
  • Disability legislation, DCU policies and best practice followed by discussion.

Light lunch will be provided.
