Target Audience:
This 1/2 day training course specifically designed and intended as a guide, for those who
hold or handle *personal information on students, staff, alumni, donors, patients, and the
general public. It provides an introductory overview of the fundamental issues contained within
the Data Protection Acts, which have a legislative impact upon DCU, and provides information on
how to achieve compliance.
This 1/2 day course is particularly suited to individuals who have a responsibility for, or significant
involvement in, the processing of personal information on behalf of the university.
Aims of this course:
This 1/2 day course will equip you to:
• be fully aware of the need for data protection legislation in Ireland
• understand how Ireland's Data Protection laws work
• understand the DCU business environment in the context of the legislation.
* Under the legislation, personal data includes all written, graphic (photos and video), acoustic (recordings) and
physiological (medical, descriptive, etc.) data which directly or indirectly (through serial numbers, codes or references)
identifies a living individual.
