Host Family Programme

FRIENDS OF DCU WELCOME OUR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS THROUGH THE DCU HOST FAMILY PROGRAMME

To welcome you to Ireland and facilitate your transition to our culture, DCU’s International Office in conjunction with the Inter Faith Centre has set up a host family programme. DCU hosts will invite you to join them for a lunch or an outing to get a taste of our local culture.

HOW IT WORKS

Who can take part?
International Students over 18 years and are studying full time in DCU.
Why get involved?
A host visit will be an interesting and valuable addition to your experience of Ireland.
Who are the hosts?
Our hosts are all voluntary and are either DCU staff and alumni or members of the local community near DCU. They are friendly, hospitable people who enjoy meeting international students and are pleased to show you the area where they live or visit a nearby place of interest. They are interested in you, your culture and your ideas.
What is a host visit?
A host visit is a once-off visit to a home of one of our host family volunteers or it may take the form of an outing to a local place of interest or a football match. It’s up to you to agree the format with your host family. Above all it is a chance to come in contact with the DCU community and neighbourhood and share experiences.
How can I meet a host family?
Contact Ann (ann.donnellan@dcu.ie) in the international office who will be delighted to give you any further information you may require and to organise a meeting with a Host Family. This initial meeting will normally take place on DCU Campus to give you a chance to become acquainted with your hosts before going to visit them.
