DCU Young Entrepreneur scoops Green Enterprise Prize


Studying Sports Science and Health  DCU Undergraduate Student  David Carey has won the overall prize in the Mason Hayes and Curran Green Business Plan Competition. Following stiff competition from 47 entrants to the competition David’s final presentation impressed the judges and his efforts rewarded him with a cash prize of €2,000. David has also received assistance from Invent to incorporate his business.

Delighted with his win David said  “ I’m really looking forward further developing my product formula and now that I have incorporated a limited company and have applied for an innovation voucher I am hopeful that I can progress quickly. Having the back up of Invent has been great. Just before the final presentation I was given the opportunity to attend a Pitch Masterclass with one of Invent’s Resident Experts Andrew Keogh of Aristo which realy helped with my preparation and I also got advice on Intellectual Property from Cathal Lane of Tomkins which was invaluable. Things are really falling into place for me now”.  

David’s idea is based on a full range of sports nutrition and healthy lifestyle products. These will come in three forms, powdered supplements, ready mixed drinks and nutritional bars. All products will be one hundred percent Irish manufactured to the highest standard possible and will not contain any cheap sugars or filler ingredients, which can be used by other companies to cut costs. All packaging and labelling will be recycled post consumption making this product extremely viable form an environmental aspect.
