Language Research

The National Centre for Language Technology (NCLT) is part of DCU’s School of Computing.

The Centre carries out basic and applied research in the areas including machine translation, natural language parsing, question answering, sentiment analysis, speech recognition and speech synthesis. Recently research in this area has been dramatically expanded through a major new collaborative research initiative CNGL– The Centre for Next Generation Localisation (€30M funding).

Natural Language to Sign Language Translator
Automatic translation between natural language and sign language bidirectionally using Example Based Machine Translation (EMT) techniques. The solution incorporates translation modules, speech recognition, and avatar technology to produce animated sign language.

Next Generation Business Intelligence Tool

State-of-the-art Natural Language Analysis Toolkit that enables automatic discovery of the relations between words in text, to allow users to access and uncover meaning from huge repositories of unstructured data (e.g. World Wide Web). This is a platform technology with many possible applications. It enable NG Business Intelligence on unstructured data. Some examples include - Affinity (identification of association among entities); Buzz Detection; Reputation (person or company); Sentiment Analysis (person, company, product); Speech Analysis; Trend Analysis; Voice of the Customer and many more.

MovieTrans - Automatic Multi-lingual Subtitle Translation Engine for Movies
Movie Trans is subtitle translation engine for automatic translation of subtitle content from a video source to another language. Based on state-of-the-art example based machine translation (EBMT) technology it can be used for new release movies, to include the growing amount of bonus material, or to automatically improve poor quality subtitles that prevail today.
