Invent is delighted to announce that DCU's latest High Potential Spin-out Company Sonex Metrology closed its first investment round on 6th December 2011. Investment has been raised from AIB Seed Capital, Enterprise Ireland and Private Investors.

Sonex will bring to market a breakthrough defect inspection technology for early detection of defects in semiconductor and solar cell devices. The Sonex product will provide a rapid, low cost and non-destructive means of detecting mechanical defects which could save manufacturers many millions of Euro.

The technology behind Sonex emanates from research conducted by Prof. Paddy McNally and Dr. Stephen Daniels at DCU supported by commercialisation funding from Enterprise Ireland. Paddy and Stephen have partnered with Michael Cunningham (CEO), a semiconductor industry expert and Dylan Fitzgerald (CFO), a financial expert to form the spin-out team and raise their investment.

The spin-out is based at Invent and will be creating 3 new positions in the New Year to embark on productising their technology. Invent would like to congratulate the team on concluding their investment and wish them every success in the next stage of this exciting new venture.
