Assistive Technology (AT) is technology that is used by individuals with disabilities in order to perform functions that might otherwise be difficult or impossible. AT aims to offer the widest range of supports so that the user can make best use of all the features and advantages that technology has to offer. This may be as simple as changing the text size on your Computer, or using more complex software such as screen-reading software which reads text and websites aloud.
Assistive Technology is not exclusively for disabled people - everyone can benefit from AT. For example, office workers can use wrist rests to reduce the risk of RSI or adjust their computer settings to reduce eye strain. Assistive Technology helps anyone perform a task more comfortably and productively.
The AT Office is located in conjunction with the ISS Service Desk and can be accessed from the front desk in the ISS building (Deirdre Thorton Room). AT Services has been incorporated into and is now a part of the day-to-day running of the Service Desk. This allows greater accessibility to the DCU community due to its location within the ISS Department.

In order to access AT Support, Students must register with the Disability and Learning Support Service: http://www.dcu.ie/students/disability/
After Registering with the Service, an AT Assessment will be carried out to see what Support and Equipment can be given to the Student. This will be followed up with a number of training sessions on the equipment/software provided so that the student will benefit from the use of this Technology.
