Mobile Phone Configuration
See below for instructions on setting up your email and calendar on your mobile phone. The following four phone types are supported from a DCU Email, calendar and WiFi perspective. All four integrate with DCU gCal Exchange Calendar, Contacts and Notes. All four phones support DCU IMAP 4 web mail server.

iPhone Setup
iPhone Staff Email Set-up
- Settings
- Go to Mail, Contacts, Calendars
- Add account
- Select “Other“
- Add Mail Account
- In First ‘New Account’ Screen fill in; name, full email address (eg.joe.bloggs@dcu.ie), email password and description(optional). click on ‘Next’ button (top right-hand corner)
- Wait for it to verify account details.
- When this completes, scroll down the screen to fill in the Incoming and Outgoing mail Server sections.
- In Incoming Mail Server Section, input Host name(mail.dcu.ie), user name (e.g. bloggsj), and email password.
- In Outgoing Mail Server Section, input Host Name(mail.dcu.ie), user name(e.g. bloggsj) and password.
Click on ‘Next’ button (top right-hand corner)
- Wait for it to verify account details.
- Click on ‘Save’ button
- Your email is now set up.
iPhone Students Email Set-up
How to setup Google Mail and Calendar on an iPhone
iPhone DCU Apps gCal Set-up
- Settings
- Go to Mail, Calendar, Contacts….
- Add Account
- Select “Exchange Account”
- Enter your full DCU Email address, for the username enter your full DCU email address and your DCU Network Password. Domain is optional.
- Click on ‘Next’ button
- iPhone will verify details and return to ask for server address.
- Enter “m.google.com” into “Server” location
- Click on ‘Next’ button
- iPhone will verify again
- Once verified, select “off” for the mail aspect of the exchange account, leaving calendar and contacts “on”. Note; If you already have contacts on the phone, you will be asked to confirm that you want to retain them.
- Click on ‘Save’ button
- Now all contacts and calendar entries should be synced with the iPhone.
How to password protect your iPhone
You can add extra protection to your iPhone by setting up the 4-figure Passcode Lock feature This allows you to enter a 4-digit password that must be entered to gain access to your iPhone and its data.
- Click the Home button to bring up the main menu
- Click on Settings
- In the Settings screen click on General
- In the General screen click on Passcode Lock
- This will open the Set Passcode screen. Enter a memorable 4-figure code and re-enter it when prompted
- You will now be at the Passcode Lock screen. You can change when you are prompted to enter the Passcode. The default setting - Immediately - means you will be asked to enter it as soon as your start using the iPhone. But you can change the setting so that the prompt appears after a certain period of use
- Press the Home button to return to the main menu.
Multiple Calendar Sync with iPhone and DCU Apps
If you happen to view multiple calendars on your gCal account or have a collaborative calendar you will need to follow these instructions in order to see all entries from all calendars on your iPhone.
Using your iPhone visit the following link for your DCU calendar:
https://www.google.com/calendar/hosted/dcu.ie/iphoneselect
Log in here using your Federated access gCal username and password. Select the additional calendars that you require to appear on your iPhone and save. Sign out of this page and after a couple of seconds the iPhone should have synced the additional calendar entries.

Nokia Setup
Nokia Email Set-up
To set up your DCU mail on your Nokia Device, follow these instructions:
Note : paths and locations can vary slightly from device to device.
Most devices will have a “set up email” option on the home page.
- Select “set up email” and enter email address and your Web Mail password and click “Next”
- Phone will attempt to validate these details and return to look for manual set up details
- Select POP / IMAP as type
- Username: Your web mail username
- Mailbox type : IMAP4
- Incoming mail server : mail.dcu.ie
- Outgoing Mail Server : mail.dcu.ie
- All other entries should be left to default values.
- Save
Your DCU mail account should now be set.
Nokia DCU Apps gCal Set-up
In order to get Google Apps working on Nokia devices, you'll need to install Mail for Exchange onto the device. There are two ways to do this:
Method 1 - Offline installation
- Install Nokia Ovi Suite on your PC (i:\google\nokia mail for exchange\Nokia_Ovi_Suite_webinstaller_ALL.exe)
- Connect the phone via the USB cable, ensure that PC suite mode is chosen on the phone
- Ovi suite might attempt to update the phone, carry out these updates
- In the Nokia Mail for Exchange folder in step one, double click on the appropriate version of Mail for Exchange for the particular phone. There are two versions, look at the file name for the model of phone you're dealing with. If you're unsure as to which version is applicable to the phone, go to http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/mail-for-exchange/compatibility-and-download and choose the appropriate model
- The software should now install on the phone, follow the instructions there.
Method 2 - Online Installation
- Open a web browser and browse to https://store.ovi.com/
- In the top left corner, choose the phone model
- Search for the application "Mail for Exchange" on the right hand side
- Once you've found the application, click on 'Send to Friend' on the right hand side
- If prompted for credentials, use username 'iss_helpdesk' and password helpdesk
- Enter the number of the phone you're sending the application to (include the +353 bit)
- Once you've received the text message, open the web link directly on the phone.

Blackberry Setup
Blackberry Email Set-up
- Open a web browser and log on to:
Vodafone: http://www.mobileemail.vodafone.ie/
O2: https://bis.eu.blackberry.com/html?brand=o2mailie
- Click Create a new account
- Enter the device pin and IMEI code. These can be located on the side of the box, or by clicking Settings, then Status from the Blackberry menu
- Enter a username and password to create the account. This username and password will be used in the future to change any e-mail account settings associated with the device.
- To associate a DCU e-mail address with the device, enter the e-mail address and password on the next screen.
- On the next screen showing the e-mail account set up, click ‘Edit’ then ‘Advanced Settings’
- Change imap.dcu.ie to mail.dcu.ie. Save settings, e-mail setup is now complete.
- To add/remove/edit e-mail accounts associated with the device, log in again with the username and password created in step 4.
Blackberry DCU Apps gCal Setup
- On the Blackberry browse to “m.google.com”.
- Download and install Google Sync for Blackberry
- Browse to the installed application (generally in “Downloads” folder on home screen).
- Open application, press the blackberry button and go into settings.
- Here enter the username and password for your gCal account with DCU
- Scroll down to select configure sync
- Select the items that you would like to sync between your Blackberry and your Google Calendar
- Save and select “Sync now” to sync your data.
- In options you can select how often and how much data is synced with your Google account.

Google Android Setup
Google Android Email Set-up
- Go to Mail app –
- Incoming Mail Settings
- Enter Email Address and choose Manual Settings when asked
- Enter Protocol - IMAP, Enter DCU Username and Password
- IMAP server enter: mail.dcu.ie
- Security type: None
- Default Port Number: 143
- Outgoing Server Settings
- Enter Username and Email Password
- SMTP Server - Enter mail.dcu.ie
- Security type - SSL
- Server Port – 465
- Enter Account Name - DCU and finally your name

- Google Android DCU Apps gCal Setup
- Click into settings and then Choose Accounts and Sync
- Click Add Account on the Bottom right hand side of Screen
- Click the Google Icon and then the next button
- Choose to sign into the Google Account and enter username and password
- You may receive an error telling you that there is no Google email setup, click back and it will then continue to setup the calendar account.
