Undergraduate Studies - Information for Guidance Counsellors and Parents

DOWNLOAD Parent Guide

The School Liaison team team is responsible for the promotion of DCU to second level schools as well as organising the University’s presence at information fairs around the country. Students at DCU come from all over Ireland and the School Liaison team will travel to your school to advise students on courses and also give an insight into university and student life. Such visits take different forms, tailored to the requirements of students, guidance counsellors and teachers.

The School Liaison team will present general talks on life and study at DCU as well as giving tips on choosing the most appropriate degree course, how to prepare for university and an outline of the courses offered at undergraduate level.

What programmes and services does School Liaison offer?

The School Liaison team is your first point of contact with DCU and offer:

School visits

Our School Liaison team works closely with career guidance counsellors nationwide and will organise visits at a time convenient to your school. There are two types of talks available. The first is of a general nature, and will include topics on third level life and facilities, transport, location, and a general overview of courses.

The second is more focused and concentrates on specific course(s) or disciplines available from DCU. This visit can either be combined with the general elements presented by a member of the student recruitment team or a stand alone subject-specific presentation presented by a faculty member.

Open day

DCU treats prospective students to the ‘DCU experience’ at the annual DCU Open Days take place annually on the third weekend in November. Students, guidance counsellors, teachers and parents are encouraged to visit the camp s and get a feel for life at DCU.

At Open Day, there are talks on all undergraduates courses at DCU, campus tours and it gives second level students the opportunity to be a third level student for a day!

Campus tours

The School Liaison team welcomes groups who wish to see the University campus on any weekday during term and is happy to organise group tours. Our team will guide groups and, as with the school visits, arrange for faculty members to meet students if they have particular course interests.

The guided tours of the campus include accommodation, sports facilities, the library, student social centre, computer facilities, labs, restaurants, The Helix (Performance Arts Centre) and other amenities.

Information sessions for Guidance Counsellors

Throughout the year, specific information sessions for guidance counsellors are organised where the school liaison team and faculty members will discuss admissions, CAO changes, DCU courses, and graduate opportunities.

Career fairs/exhibitions

Our team aim to attend career fairs/ exhibitions throughout the country, which are organised by schools or local organisations.
