In order to ensure a truly rounded education, many students look into the possibility of spending a semester or a year studying in a foreign institution. DCU provides a fantastic Study Abroad Programme.
Since the foundation of DCU, the University has built up and nurtured exchange agreements with academic institutions worldwide. Exchange partners are located all over Europe, the U.S., Australia and in Asia.
Leaving home to go to university is a big step and an exciting challenge. Imagine adding another dimension to that experience by spending a part of your degree in another country.
DCU has international exchange agreements with over 90 universities worldwide. Many courses allow you the opportunity to study at a foreign university and gain academic credit for it as part of the year abroad and ERASMUS programme. Some courses will require students to spend part or all of their third year studying at a university overseas, e.g. Applied Languages, International Business and Languages or International Relations.
ERASMUS, which is part of the larger Socrates programme, stands for "European Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students". The aim of ERASMUS is to promote the mobility and exchange of teaching staff, students and administration staff throughout the participating countries.
ERASMUS gives students the opportunity to study for a period of 3-12 months at a university or higher education institution in another participating country. This period of study is fully recognised in the home institution. Contact with another country enables students to become more adaptable and improves communication and language skills. It is also a considerable plus point on the employment market.
