Research Support

How Can I Find Research Funding?

Funding for research can come from a variety of national and international funders and sources. Many funders launch calls and request proposals and applications to be submitted via online systems or by other means. Visit the contact page on our website to see which team member is the contact point for your school. We will then guide you through the submission process for the funding opportunity you are interested in.

You might want to get funding to finance a research project, to organise a workshop or a conference, to buy time out from teaching, to travel, to disseminate your research, to hire a research assistant or a postdoc, or for many other reasons.

To keep track of funding opportunities, you should:

  • Sign up to relevant funders mailing lists and newsletters, and follow them on social media.
  • Remain in contact with your RIS contact point - let us know what you are working on and what you are looking for.
  • Create and save your own custom searches on Research Professional (see below).
  • Keep an eye on your email, as we circulate details of major calls.

Research Professional

Research Professional is an online database of research funding opportunities and a source of global research policy and news. DCU subscribes to this service, giving free access to all staff. The database has powerful searching and customisation options and can be searched for funding opportunities or news items by discipline, sponsor, or even deadlines. All funding opportunities in the database are eligibility verified for Irish researchers. You can save your searches and set email alerts, so that you receive a regular email with opportunities picked out for you.

You can log in to Research Professional using your ordinary DCU credentials.

Useful funding searches can be accessed at the links below:

If you wish to edit the above searches - click on the ‘lock’ icon under the heading. You can then add relevant discipline terms or award types, if required.

Please contact Isabel Hidalgo (isabel.hidalgo@dcu.ie) in the Research Office if you have any queries or would like to arrange further training.
