Building upon the success of the First Self, Selves and Sexualities International Conference 2010, the Sexuality Studies team at DCU are delighted to host the Second cross-faculty conference, in keeping with the academic ethos of Dublin City University. It is co-organised by Dr Mel Duffy, from the School of Nursing (SON), and Jean-Philippe Imbert from the School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies (SALIS). SON is part of the Faculty of Science and Health, and SALIS belongs to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, at Dublin City University.
The many discourses of Sexuality Studies permeate and inform the different narratives of life, be it at private or public levels. For this very reason, this cross-, inter-, and multi-disciplinary conference is aimed at enhancing sexual literacy, generating well being and advocating social justice.
Our aim, as conference co-organisers, is to provide a global platform on which to discuss in an open fashion the varied processes and variations in sexual cultures, sexual identities and gender role formation. In so doing, we wish to elaborate on the many debates informing the cultural, economical, ethical, historical, and social foundations of sexuality, at personal and societal levels. We welcome academic paper proposals and poster proposals from the disciplines of the fields of Arts, Health, Humanities and Social Sciences. Papers and posters favouring cross-disciplinary perspectives will be given preference.
