Science Speak 2010

Venue: RDS Concert Hall

Date: Tuesday April 27, 2010 at 7.00pm
This unique inter-varsity science communication event will take place on Tuesday 27th April 2010 and is a joint initiative organised by the RDS and The Irish Times in association with Irish Universities Promoting Science (IUPS). It involves all seven of the Republic’s universities and challenges graduate students to explain their research to a non-specialist audience using ordinary language without the technical jargon.
Pat Kenny is compere and the panel of judges includes RTÉ presenter and journalist Keelin Shanley, RTÉ presenter Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin, RTÉ meteorologist Evelyn Cusack, Peter Brabazon, Discover Science and Engineering, and “Irish Times” science editor Dick Ahlstrom.
The DCU finalist is Silvia Scarmagnani, School of Chemical Sciences with a presentation entitled “Development of spiropyran functionalised microparticles with light switchable metal ion-binding capability”.
