Although chronic diseases are among the most common and costly of all health problems, they are also the most preventable. The Centre for Preventive Medicine (CPM) will use basic, translational and applied research to reduce the development and progression of common clinical conditions. It is envisaged that clinicians and scientists will work together to
(i) identify biological markers of disease risk;
(ii) develop effective physiological, behavioural and pharmacological interventions;
(iii) investigate cellular and molecular mechanisms of disease pathophysiology and
(iv) implement community based prevention programmes.
