Receiving your offer is an exciting time but it can also present some challenges and worries. To assist in your academic, personal and professional development DCU has designed a range of supports. Applying to DCU as a Mature Student

So, you are interested in studying for a third level qualification?  Perhaps you are motivated by the chance to embark on a new career or to progress further your existing career.  Maybe you wish to fulfill a long-held ambition of obtaining a university degree or simply have a desire to learn more about a discipline that interests you.  Whatever your motivation, DCU aims to support you, as a mature student, in achieving your goals.

As your first step we suggest you familiarise yourself with our courses  and the specific academic course requirements.  You will find information on applying to DCU as a mature student . Supports for Mature Students in DCU

 Mature Student Writing Week 

This is an annual event for incoming first-year students.  It is an opportunity to refresh your academic writing skills before your begin your DCU journey.  More details can be found on the student learning page. The mature student officer will be on hand throughout the week to assist you with any queries regarding registration or SUSI grants. 

Meet Your Support Staff

This is held in the summer each year for incoming mature students.  Over a cup of coffee you can discover the range of supports available to you during your time in DCU.  Services available on the night include: Mature Student Officer, Student Learning, Library, Disability, Information Systems and Services (ISS) and the Student Advice Centre. Once you receive your CAO offer the mature student officer will send you your event invitation by email.

One to One Meetings

Our Mature Student Officer is available to answer any questions you have during your time in DCU.  One to one meetings cover all areas of academic life including how to build a study plan, adjusting to third level life, exam success and life coaching, Orla can be contacted on 01 700 6987/01 884 2336 (Tuesday) or by emailing

Student Learning

The Mature Student Officer works closely with the Student Learning Department to ensure our mature students receive a range of workshops and online tutorials to support your learning.  We have a dedicated student learning page which will assist you throughout your time in DCU.  It is worth famililiarising yourself with these pages early in the Semester, so that you know where to go when you need to start writing assignments.

Professional Development 

DCU Careers service offers invaluable advice to all students.  Their mature student page contains information which will enable you to make a smooth transition into employment.
