The definition of Coaching according to the ICF (International Coaches Federation) is the following, ‘Coaching is partnering with individuals in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential’ (ICF 2013).
What is Life Coaching?
Life coaching aims to help and empower others to make, meet and exceed personal and professional goals - including excelling at university, becoming happy and fulfilled in life, exploring the self and the world, and achieving ambitions. This allows coaches to work with students both inividually or in groups focusing on the specific needs of the student. At third level, students are in the process of developing academically, personally and professionally. Life coaching can enable a student become stronger, more focused and successul in any area they choose to develop. The focus is on the student and facilitating them to flourish during their time at university.
How can coaching benefit me?
Coaching differentiates itself from mentoring, counselling, psychotherapy or sports coaching. If you want to focus on achieving some personal goals, increasing motivation, confidence and resilience and becoming more successful - life coaching is for you. It will challange you to reach your potential and facilitate the changes that need to happen to be successful. At DCU we have qualified Executive & Life Coaches in Student Support & Develpment who can meet students for a one-to-one coaching session. We also offer workshops and programmes. Our popular 'Pathways to Success @ University Programme' is run four times a year on both campuses.
Pathways to Success @ University Programme
The 'Pathways to Success' programme is a 4 week programme that will enable students to set goals, build resilience, self-confidence and create a strategy to creating success in their life. This is a great programme as it enables students to take time for themselves and look at what they want from their life. Throughout the four weeks, we will look at ways to create clear goals, build strategies to maintain motivation and build the resilience and self-confidence to reach your goals. Those who attend the 4 weeks will be presented with a 'Certificate of Completion'.

Week 3 Building Confidence & Resilience
Week 4 Reaching your Potential / Achieving your Goals
We offer one hour motivation workshops to groups of students when required and when there is a demand. During the workshop you will learn what motivates you and how to create strategies to keep yourself motivated throughout your time at university. Goal Setting is also incorporated into the workshop to give the student direction when the workshop is completed.
