DCU Governing Authority

Dorothy Kenny is Associate Professor in the School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies (SALIS) at Dublin City University. She holds a BA in Applied Languages (French and German) from NIHE Dublin (now DCU), and an MSc in machine translation and a PhD in translation studies from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. She has lived in Québec, Germany, Spain, New Zealand and the UK.

She has worked at DCU since 1992, and was Head of School in SALIS from 2013 to 2016. She served on the Board of the European Commission-sponsored European Master’s in Translation (EMT) Network from 2009 to 2014, and on the Executive Committee of the International Association for Translation and Intercultural Studies (IATIS) from 2004 to 2014. She is an Honorary Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Linguists in the UK.

She lectures and publishes mainly in the areas of translation technology and corpus linguistics. Her most recent publications include the edited volume Human Issues in Translation Technology (Routledge, 2017). She is a member of the Centre for Translation and Textual Studies at DCU, and is associated with the ADAPT Centre.

She has been a professorial member of the Governing Authority since October 2016.
